Tecun Uman´s teachers have been carefully selected based on their educational training, experience in teaching Spanish, and their qualities of kindness, friendliness and patience. We believe there should be a good working-relationship between our teachers and our students, so if at any time a student does not feel comfortable with a particular teacher, there is no problem in changing.
Other schools often employ teachers with no certification, but each one of our teachers has graduated from a Guatemalan university with a certificate in teaching Spanish as a Second Language. Our staff has been carefully selected based on their educational training, experience in teaching Spanish, and their qualities of friendliness, kindness and patience.
I studied 3 weeks at Tecun Uman. My teacher was great, constantly indulging me and allowing me to learn the things I wanted to. The location is also fantastic, just minutes away from the main square. I would be remiss if I didn't mention my host family, who added immensely to my experience here. A must is to participate in the week-end excursions, they are unforgettable memories.
It is an amazing place to learn Spanish. I remember the first day I arrived in Guatemala, I could only speak ‘hola’ and ‘te amour’. After 3 months of learning, my Spanish has gotten better and better, I can engage and understand easy conversations with others and fuse to the local culture. My instructor Lilian, she’s the best teacher ever. Lilian is not only my spiritual mentor but also my Mama in Guatemala. She treats me like her son and we share our life experiences with each other. I have learned from her not only Spanish but also the truth of life. I had a great time with her and made some really good friends in Antigua. I love Guate!!!
I studied at Tecun Uman during June/July of 2012. I loved my time there and my home stay. Everyone was so friendly and I felt my instructor really cared for my individual Spanish studies. I could not say more nice things about Coni and her hospitality at my home stay. The home stay was very close walk to the school! I would recommend everyone to join in the planned activities or suggestions from the school.
I attended classes at Tecun Uman for about four months for two hours each day. My husband and I moved here to Guatemala, and I wanted to make sure I had a good understanding of the language. My teacher, Matilde, helped me tremendously, not only with the language, but with the culture as well. She was well versed on all the material and had answers for all of my questions. The one to one teacher to student ratio enabled me to learn at my own pace, and my teacher and the school were very lenient and understanding when I needed to reschedule a class. I am very happy with the progress I've made, and I recommend this school to everyone!
